HR Operations Director – Biotech Location: Lexington, MA (Hybrid – 3 days onsite) Contract: 40 hours/week | 3–6 months We are partnering with a small, dynamic biotech company in Lexington, MA, to identify an experienced HR Operations Director for a contract position. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-moving environment where flexibility, collaboration, and a hands-on approach are essential. Overview As HR Operations Director, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring HR processes, systems, and policies support the organization during a critical growth and transition phase. You will be responsible for streamlining operations, optimizing workflows, and delivering high-quality support to employees and leaders alike. This is a full-time contract role requiring 40 hours per week with an expectation of 3 days onsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage core HR operations including onboarding, offboarding, employee records, compliance, and HRIS maintenance.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to leadership on operational HR issues, ensuring consistency, compliance, and efficiency across all practices.
  • Evaluate and enhance existing HR systems and workflows to support a rapidly evolving business.
  • Oversee vendor relationships (payroll, benefits, HRIS) and ensure accurate and timely service delivery.
  • Develop and update HR policies and procedures in line with company needs and compliance requirements.
  • Partner with Finance and Legal to ensure alignment across payroll, benefits, and employment matters.
  • Support change management efforts and help scale HR operations as the organization evolves.
  • Be a resource and coach for managers on HR processes, ensuring consistency and clarity.

Requirements

  • Proven HR leadership experience within small biotech or start-up environments; comfort working in changing, high-growth, hands-on settings is essential.
  • Strong track record of leading operational HR functions across multiple disciplines.
  • Deep understanding of employment laws and HR compliance (especially in Massachusetts).
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and tools; experience implementing or upgrading systems is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with a bias toward process improvement and operational excellence.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; advanced degree or HR certification a plus.
